Cheetah Midi Moment
Picture this. The year is 2003. You just saw Finding Nemo in theaters. You’ve got Hillary Duff’s hit album Metamorphosis in your portable CD player. America’s Next Top Model is airing for the first time. And of course, The Cheetah Girls is the newest Disney Channel Original Movie. My Childhood best friend and I became best friends because of the Cheetah Girls. You see, during recess in the second grade, we were the Cheetah Girls. I was Galleria, always. The iconic film gave us strong women to idolize and a soundtrack of bops about girl power, supporting your friends, and never waiting for a prince to rescue you.
2003 was the year of wearing quite literally anything with cheetah spots, because at 7 years old, I thought it would make me a strong, independent superstar- just like the Cheetah Girls. Skip ahead to 2019 when cheetah and leopard printed apparel explodes as one of the most easily identifiable trends of the year. You can imagine my excitement.
Even 16 years later, there’s something empowering about wearing your spots. This chic midi skirt from Forever 21 never fails to make me feel like a girlboss. It has become an absolute staple in my wardrobe! I’ll dress it up with heeled booties and statement earrings or pair it with a vintage tee and dad sneakers for a more understated look.
